Typical Sunday Morning

Adam | Beth | Heironimus Family | John | Kyle | Luke | Rachel

This morning, I awoke around 2AM (I can’t remember the exact time) because Beth couldn’t sleep... She is having another baby, and has always had trouble sleeping when pregnant. After talking a while and getting her back to sleep, I was awakened by Rachel coming into our room. I sometimes let her climb in bed with us, but this time gave her a hug and sent her back to her room. Within seconds, I heard sobbing. Being an old softy, especially for my little girl, I went and climbed in bed with her. She immediately calmed down and fell asleep. The next thing I knew, I awoke in an unfamiliar place trying to figure out where I was. When I realized I fell asleep in Rachel’s bed, I got up and went back to bad. I have no idea when.

The next thing I know, it was 6 AM and John was up crying (he actually slept in a little). I went and got him and brought him to bed with us. Rachel soon followed, then Adam. No more sleeping going on this morning!

I enjoyed cuddling with the children, but John was tired of laying in bed, so we all got up. Beth was pretty hungry, so I went downstairs and started a pot of water and milk boiling for Malt-O-Meal. I figure ten servings would be enough for us with leftovers for later. I then went upstairs to shower. Luke needed a shower, so he hopped in with me. He can never seem to get the water hot enough, so he immediately turned it up. After nearly being scalded, I convinced him that I would be doing any further temperature adjusting.

I then realized that I had water and milk on the stove. After putting my pajamas back on and rushing downstairs, I found it boiling quite rapidly. Their was a brown sludge of burnt milk in the bottom of the pan. Should I start over? Nah. I poured in the 1 2/3 cups of Malt-O-Meal and stirred it with a whisk, the best way to keep out the lumps. The whisk even got rid of lumps of brown milk sludge.

I called everyone down and we ate the whole ten servings. It takes half a box of Malt-O-Meal to feed my family. By the way, no one noticed any kind of burnt milk taste.

Beth headed upstairs to get ready for church while I cleaned up. I heard some racket in the gutter outside the living room window. Yesterday, I had to seal up a hole in our house where squirrels were trying (hopefully unsuccessfully) to enter our house. Now, apparently some birds have decided to take over where the squirrels have left off. Adam’s ready to go bird hunting now. I chased the birds off. However, since we were already outside, Adam decided that he needed to stay out, so he started riding his bike around our circle drive.

Beth is in charge of missions at church, and so she needed a box made up to collect canned food. As a I guy, I see the big cardboard box she has and think “It looks great.” As a woman, she needs it to be decorated. Since I am ready for church and she is not, it looks like I’m nominated, so I spend the next ten minutes taping a paper tablecloth with fall leaves on it to this box. I did a pretty good job too, if I do say so myself.

I also finish getting my Sunday School lesson together, which includes Duplos to make an altar, Playdough to make a “sacrifice”, a cup for water, and pan to keep the table from getting too messy. I also need twelve stones to help with the alter, but I’ll have the kids in class go get them from outside to break up the action. By the way, we are talking about when Elijah offered the sacrificed to God and had it consumed by fire while the prophets of Baal offered their sacrifice to Baal with no success.

Meanwhile, Rachel is “reading” to John while he sits nicely in his high chair, which is quite unusual for him. If he were out of the high chair and wandering around, like he usually is, I would need to wrap the box while John either A) tries to climb in it or B) tries climb on it and stand up.

Somewhere in there, Adam came in the house for a minute told me about the time a few weeks ago when he accidently ran over a mouse in our storage shed with his bike. The mouse's tail got stuck under his wheel, so Adam was able to wack it and then throw it out in the woods. He thinks some buzzards have since eaten it, since he has not been able to find it lately.

I put Rachel’s tights on (her, not me) and got John cleaned up and his boots on (him, not me). I have no idea where Luke is, but I’m pretty sure he is outside with Adam. Beth is downstairs printing out a sign to put on her box and I take the children out to the van. Luke is indeed outside with Adam. I get them all loaded up, Beth comes out, and we happily head for church at 8:35 AM, giving us enough time to get there exactly on time for me to start Sunday School.
